Current consensus AKI definitions allow AKI events to be precisely anchored from a temporal standpoint, clearly defining a pre-disease state. As the patient progresses from “No AKI” to “AKI,” the pattern of data generated within the EHR changes, creating an “AKI signal” which can be identified through advanced analytic techniques.
